This post is long overdue, as I’ve been preoccupied with finishing up the books. Anyway, here it is, some photos from the hand binding process! There are a million steps involved, so I won’t get into all the details at the moment.
Just enjoy the shots! :)
Punching holes in a signature, or a group of folded pages (click for larger view)
a stack of the signatures all punched and ready to be sewn
measuring & cutting the spines
cutting the bookcloth for the covers
a few of the materials: bookcloth, spine, bone folder, PVA glue, brush
applying glue to the spines…
…which are glued in place on the bookcloth
applying glue to the bookcloth (above), then gluing the bookboard in place (below)
a bunch of the covers drying and hanging out
…and more to come! I hope you enjoyed this little glimpse into the process… I’ll be posting again soon :)
Please join me at Quimby’s event tomorrow night to see some of the finished books!
