This is a sort of practice/get-back-into drawing-after-a-long-break drawing. It’s also a prep drawing for a new series I will be working on, focusing on people, everyday environments, humor, and such things. Developing a body of work around this stuff makes me incredibly excited.

This illustration was inspired by Ori Fienberg’s “Collectors” coming out in the first issue of Artifice Magazine. It’s a three-color screen print in an edition of 100, printed by Angee Lennard at Spudnik Press… For more information on the Artifice and Spudnik collaboration, read the post below. The issue is really amazing, filled with excellent contemporary fiction, poetry, and other writing… If you can make the release party, you should. There will be additional artworks and prints available for purchase as well as special edition packs (where you can get all 10 art prints with the first issue).
Hey there!
Spudnik Press has teamed up with Artifice Magazine, a new Chicago-based non-profit literary magazine, to celebrate their first printed issue. Ten printers from Spudnik were chosen to illustrate ten stories from the issue. The limited-edition screen prints will be available for purchase, along with the freshly printed first issue, at the release party happening next weekend.

Hi! If you are just now stopping by, I apologize for the wacky look of the site! I’m doing some maintenance on the blog and it’s taking a while to figure out the code. Feel free to browse around though! :)
I’ve been working on some illustrations based on an article I recently read about various shopkeepers around the globe. This is the first one of the three I have going, and I finally finished coloring it (at some points during my break). Here’s the ‘angelic’ Mr. Marzipan in his candy shop…

Oops, sorry I haven’t been posting anything! Currently on vacation, will be back next week with updates! ciao ciao :)
Thanks to Brook, I now have some amazing scans from “die farbe” (1944), a Bauhaus textbook. Here are some images from more of the visual/theater stuff… click below to see all. Enjoy!

A few notes on the future of this blog:
I will be taking a break from posting daily drawings. I will definitely continue to try and draw every day but I will not be posting sketches on a daily basis; things have gotten busier and there is not such a personal need to post them anymore. They have served a wonderful purpose in keeping me drawing almost every day and updating the blog, but I would like to move away from the ’sketchiness’ and start posting more solid, finished drawings, as I complete them. No worries though, I will still post sketches from time to time ;) That being said, I would like to start writing more about other things I find interesting, other artists, beautiful images, photographs, collections, etc…. basically, other things I look at and research when I’m not drawing. So please keep checking back for new updates….
That’s about it for now, thanks :)
Sanya
